Nevada City, born in 1849 in the California gold rush, has finely preserved its rich history. The town was originally called "Deer Creek Dry Diggins" after the first discovery of gold in Deer Creek. It became "Nevada" in 1850 and "Nevada City" soon after. The population reached an amazing 10,000 people in the height of the gold rush and today stays at 2500. Nevada City boasts its rich history in the original Victorian houses and many historical buildings registered in the National Register of Historic Places. Quaint shops, artesan showrooms and fine dining can all be found lining the historic streets of Nevada City.

Enjoy seasonal entertainment throughout the year including the Nevada County Fair out at the fairgrounds, The Farmers' Market every Saturday morning starting mid spring, the Clydesdale Classic and finishing the year is a 4 week event called "Victorian Christmas" in which the entire town participates in setting back the clock to 1849!
